nkt cables wins cable contract in New Zealand

A consortium with the nkt cables and Balfour Beatty UGL Limited as participants, has won a cable contract in New Zealand.

The nkt/BBUGL consortium has signed a cable manufacturing and installation contract with Trans Power worth 82 million New Zealand dollars corresponding to approx. 47 million Euro. nkt cables’ part of the contract is worth 35 million New Zealand dollars corresponding to 20 million Euro.

The NKT/BBUGL consortium has been engaged to manufacture and install a cable of 18 kilometers length. The project – the NAan project - is part of a major upgrade of the electricity grid in New Zealand. The consortium was chosen because they are all extremely experienced in the production and installation of extra high voltage cables.

Tendering activity for projects like the NAan project was a driver for the acquisition of Aussa Power in Australia in April 2010.

The manufacturing of the cables can begin in the 4th quarter of 2011.
